Am I a Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

If you are expecting to have a future pregnancy, a mommy makeover may not be in your best interest until after the birth of your last baby. Additional pregnancies, childbirth, and/or breastfeeding can compromise the results of a mommy makeover if performed too soon. Also, you would benefit from a mommy makeover after you have lost the baby weight. You will want to be at a stable weight before having plastic surgery. Weight fluctuations will alter your outcomes in the future. Dr. Morales will discuss with you other factors that will make you a great candidate for a mommy makeover when he meets with you in private for your consultation.

Dr. Morales' Mommy Makeover Techniques

A mommy makeover is performed under general anesthesia in an outpatient setting (unless decided otherwise for your safety). The length of the surgery depends on which procedures are being performed for you – most mommy makeovers last about six hours. Dr. Morales can perform mommy makeovers with breast augmentation, breast lifts, tummy tucks, liposuction, and/or fat transfers.

Breast Augmentation with implants

After childbearing, the breast tissue is often deflated and has lost both perkiness and volume. Breast augmentation adds fullness and volume to the breasts for a more contoured, aesthetic appearance. Breast implants, available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, can improve the appearance of breasts that have lost volume or fullness after pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Breast Lift

One of the most common effects of a recent pregnancy or breastfeeding is excess hanging skin due to stretching and loss of breast tissue density. Your breasts may have a sagging appearance. Breast lift surgery, medically referred to as mastopexy, eliminates the extra skin and tightens the remainder for firmer, perkier, more youthful-looking breasts. Breast lift surgery can also be performed in combination with breast augmentation to rejuvenate the breasts by adding breast volume. Often, the best answer is a combination of the two.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tucks (or abdominoplasty) can address the most obvious area to physically change after pregnancy: the stomach region. During pregnancy, the abdominal muscles are stretched and pulled apart, which allows loose skin to accumulate in the midsection. A tummy tuck pulls the abdominal muscles together, eliminates excess skin and fat, and tightens the remaining skin for a smoother, flatter appearance.

Liposuction

After pregnancy or weight gain, excess pockets of fat can appear anywhere on the body, which can be very difficult to slim down. Liposuction is an effective option to eliminate fat deposits in the abdomen, back, hips, love handles, arms, thighs, neck, and other areas.

Fat Transfer

Fat taken from one area of your body may be transferred to another area for a fat transfer. This technique can fill in areas that need augmentation without a synthetic implant or dermal filler.

Your Mommy Makeover Recovery

During the first ten days after surgery, discomfort, as well as bruising, is common. It is important for you to get up and move around several times a day to help speed the recovery process and reduce the risk of blood clots forming in your legs. Each patient will recover in various ways and in varying lengths of time, though most patients find that they can go back to work within 2 – 4 weeks after surgery. Strenuous activity and heavy lifting will need to be avoided for about six weeks. It can take a few months for all swelling to clear up and scars to fade over time.

Expected Cost

The cost of a mommy makeover will vary in price, depending on how many surgeries will be combined and how many surgery sessions will be needed. At a minimum, the cost for your mommy makeover could range from $15,000 – $20,000.

Mommy Makeover FAQs

Will there be a lot of scars from a mommy makeover?

Incisions made for a mommy makeover will be placed in as many concealed areas on your body as possible. We can also set you up with some products and protocols to follow in recovery to limit excessive skin damage.

Can I combine other surgeries with a Mommy Makeover?

Yes, it is possible to combine a mommy makeover with other types of surgery, such as a hysterectomy or c-section. However, we do not recommend it. Combining intra-abdominal procedures with a tummy tuck increases the risk of complications, such as bleeding. In the event of intra-abdominal bleeding, the tummy tuck incision would have to be taken down, which may compromise the final results. It is preferable to undergo a hysterectomy or c-section separately as this reduces the risk of complications and length of the postoperative recovery.

If Dr. Morales feels that it is safe to perform multiple surgeries for you on one surgery date, then you may enjoy the benefits of having these procedures performed all at once. He will gladly discuss your options for a mommy makeover in a private consultation.

Can you transfer my fat to other areas on my face or body?

If you are having a fat removal procedure, you could potentially have a fat transfer to an area lacking in volume. There are specific fat transfer procedures you may qualify for if you have enough fat to donate. For example, if you have a tummy tuck, Dr. Morales will remove fat from your abdominal area (also known as the donor site). The fat can be purified and reinjected into areas, like the buttocks, breasts, and face. Dr. Morales can discuss your options with what you can accomplish with your mommy makeover in your private consultation.
