Breasts go through many changes during pregnancy and nursing, and sometimes this can have a permanent effect on your appearance. Breasts can become larger or smaller, or they may change shape and become deflated. In fact, most women at some point in their lives will experience sagging or drooping breasts. A breast augmentation procedure at Morales Plastic Surgery in Houston, TX can help women resolve issues of volume loss by using implants to build up the profile once again.

Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Rolando Morales, provides patients with saline or silicone implants to help individuals achieve a gorgeous outcome. Dr. Morales is highly skilled in implementing implants as he performs countless cosmetic surgeries each year. No matter your reason for choosing to get implants, breast augmentation can significantly improve your quality of life. Schedule your consultation by calling our office in Houston, TX.

Choosing between saline or silicone breast implants

When you arrive for your consultation at Morales Plastic Surgery, Dr. Morales will perform a physical examination and review different types of breast implants to see which best meets your aesthetic goals. The great news is that breast augmentation can be personalized based on the desired results. If your breasts never fully developed, or if they deflated as a result of pregnancy or weight loss, saline or silicone implants may be the perfect solution.

Saline implants are filled with sterile saline solution, while silicone implants contain a liquid silicone gel. Both types of implants are FDA-approved and designed to resemble the natural shape and feel of a breast. Patients usually prefer silicone primarily because of its softer texture and bounce. However, since saline implants do not come pre-filled, these are usually a better option for more precise results. All types of breast implants are offered in either round or teardrop shapes to achieve different looks.

Dr. Morales completes breast augmentation in about an hour while the patient is under general anesthesia. During the surgery, we place the incisions around the areolae, under the breast, in the underarm, or around the belly button. Once the procedure is complete, we will offer guidance for recovering properly at home. Patients can expect to wear a compression garment for a short while to support their new saline or silicone breast implants.

Are breast implants safe?

There is much to consider before deciding to undergo breast augmentation surgery. Although breast implants are safe, patients should be informed of the potential complications as well as risks from surgery. The most common complications include breast discomfort, breast or nipple numbness, and a condition called capsular contracture. Capsular contracture occurs when the scar tissue that forms around the implant begins to tighten. This can result in some pain and discomfort as well as distorted breast tissue. For this reason, it is important to monitor the implants as long as you have them and report any concerning symptoms to Dr. Morales.

Breast implants are safe, but they are not meant to be lifetime devices. The longer you have them, the more likely they will need to be removed and replaced due to potential complications or implant rupture. Even though implant rupture is rare, patients should learn how to handle the situation in a safe and efficient manner. A rupture with a saline implant is noticeable almost right away since the breast will deflate and the solution is reabsorbed by the body. Silicone ruptures are not always obvious, so patients with these type of implants will not be able to notice a rupture. This is why individuals should schedule regular exams using MRI to screen for complications.
