What is Dual Plane Buttock Augmentation?

By: Dr. Rolando Morales

Even though most women want to have a more voluptuous backside, this cannot always be achieved naturally. Buttock augmentation is an elective procedure that increases the size of the butt through the use of medical-grade artificial implants. Thousands of women use implants each year to enhance the appearance of their silhouette. Dr. Rolando Morales is a trusted board-certified plastic surgeon who frequently educates patients about the benefits and risks of surgery so they can make the most informed decision possible.

Morales Plastic Surgery in Houston, TX is proud to employ the novel dual plane buttock augmentation technique at our facility. Dr. Morales developed this technique and submitted an article for publication about dual plane buttock augmentation in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. He has also shared this unique method at The Aesthetic Meeting with peers in 2019, an event organized by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). If you would like to learn more about gluteal implants and the dual plane process, call our office for a private appointment.

What is dual plane buttock augmentation?

To improve the shape of their buttocks, women sometimes turn to diet and targeted exercise. If this does not provide the results you want, silicone buttock implants may be able to help. Gluteal implants are traditionally manufactured in a range of sizes to enhance your shape without sacrificing safety. So what is dual plane buttock augmentation? This technique places the implant partially in the muscle on the lower pole of the buttock, and partially on top of the muscle in the upper pole. Dr. Morales then employs buttock fat grafting over the lower and outer poles to provide soft tissue coverage. This process often results in very satisfying outcomes.

What are the gluteal implants made from?

When considering dual plane buttock augmentation, you may think the implants are similar to the ones used in breast augmentation. Actually, the implants for butt enhancement are a little different. They are a semi-solid piece of silicone and come in various shapes and sizes. Dr. Morales takes advantage of these forms to create custom results for patients. These implants are more durable than other medical devices and can endure normal wear-and-tear. Not only that, but they are also designed to be a lifetime device, in contrast to temporary breast implants. Today, new advances in silicone buttock implants allow them to feel softer and more natural.

Candidates for dual plane buttock augmentation

At your consultation in Houston, TX, it is important that we take the time to learn about you. Many things need to be considered prior to dual plane buttock augmentation, including your medical history and lifestyle choices. We encourage you to read about what we have to offer and ask questions during your appointment. After we determine if you are a candidate for treatment, we can discuss all aspects of the procedure and make sure it is the right option for you. To be considered for gluteal implants, you may have a body mass index (BMI) of 22 and lower, which means there is not enough fat on your body for buttock fat grafting.

How dual plane buttock augmentation is performed

Silicone buttock implants are placed while the patient is under general anesthesia at our accredited surgical center. The procedure itself takes about 2 – 3 hours to complete. To begin the process, patients are carefully positioned face down. Dr. Morales will then create an implant pocket through natural creases in the skin. The gluteal implants are prepared, rinsed with triple antibiotics, and carefully placed into the pockets. Buttock fat grafting may be employed to further improve the shape and contour of the butt. Compression garments may be placed afterward to support the areas where liposuction was performed.

What happens during surgical recovery?

After surgery, patients may return home to rest and recover. The knowledgeable staff at Morales Plastic Surgery will provide you with helpful guidelines and instructions about how to sit and take care of the treated area. The recovery period of dual plane buttock augmentation is essentially two weeks. During this time, individuals are not allowed to sit directly on their bottom. This will decrease the risk of bleeding or other complications. Dr. Morales will let you know when you can start increasing activities, such as driving or working out. Follow-up appointments will also be scheduled to ensure your health and safety.

Enhance your bottom with gluteal implants

Some women are simply dissatisfied with the shape of their buttocks. These individuals may feel that their bottom is too flat or lacks definition.
