How Your Eyelids May Be Aging You
Eyelids begin to droop or make you look older than you are due to a combination of factors, primarily related to aging and lifestyle habits. Over time, the skin around the eyes loses its elasticity, and the muscles supporting the eyelids weaken, causing excess skin to gather on the upper and lower eyelids. Additionally, fat deposits around the eyes can shift or become more prominent, leading to puffiness or sagging.
These changes create a tired, older appearance, even if you are well-rested. Genetics, sun exposure, and repetitive facial expressions can also accelerate the aging process around the eyes. This natural sagging can even obstruct vision in some cases, further affecting both appearance and function.
While filler and Botox can help delay the need for eyelid surgery by temporarily improving the appearance of aging around the eyes, the effects are temporary. Filler and injectables cannot address more significant issues like excess skin or drooping eyelids, which ultimately require surgery to correct. Most eyelid surgery patients are 35 or older.
