WHat is a facelift?
Over time, the skin on the face tends to loosen with age, which gradually forms wrinkles around the eyelids, forehead and mouth. In some cases, pouches and jowls develop along the jawline, and extra folds form over the front part of the neck, forming a double chin. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rolando Morales works with patients in the Houston, TX area to tighten and lift drooping skin with a surgical facelift. Men and women with excess skin and a loss of volume in the mid-face seeking a younger and smoother facial appearance are good candidates for facelift surgery.

"The Doctor is Very Knowledgeable - Honestly, the whole staff was wonderful! The doctor is very knowledgeable and actually hears out all of your concerns and tries his best to address them. Prior to seeing Dr. Morales, I had gone to see a “popular” plastic surgeon and he was horrible and lost. When it comes to my health (and also being in the medical field) I am very selective and know what to look for to get the best treatment possible! Dr. Morales gave me the assurance and provided me with the information that no other surgeon out there was able to explain! I thank you Dr. Morales for everything!"- C. / RealSelf / Feb 18, 2020
"I am 48 & just had a makeover 3 months ago (tummy tuck, breast's, lipo & upper & lower eyes) by Dr Morales. I look & feel like a million dollars. I recently lost 85 pounds & now my stomach is now flat. Dr. Morales really worked his magic & skills to create exactly want I wanted. He took the time to explain each procedure & answered all of my questions. He staff is very professional & kind. Excellent customer service from everyone from the front desk staff to the nurses on surgery day. I spent the first night in the hospital- so worth it- excellent care. Then came home & had a nurse come to my house & explain the process of how to clean the areas, drain & any other question I had. I am so happy with my results. My confidence is back in myself after working so hard to lose the weight. Thank you Dr Morales!!!"- J.D. / Google / Feb 12, 2020
During the Surgery
In order to create the most natural-looking results possible, Dr. Morales makes incisions within the hairline and above the ear, extending around the lobe and ending below the hairline behind the ear. During the surgery, the tissue layers are tightened, the facial skin is re-draped and lifted, and the excess skin is removed. In some cases, fat grafting is recommended to restore volume fullness, contour and definition. The standard facelift procedure takes 3 to 4 hours, and is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.
Dr. Morales performs a standard facelift as well as a modified version called the short-scar facelift. The short-scar facelift has the advantage of avoiding a scar behind the ear. However, not all patients are candidates for the short-scar facelift. A comprehensive evaluation done by Dr. Morales will determine the most suitable facelift technique for each patient.
This SMAS facelift is considered the gold standard. This surgery, while more complicated, produces results that are more dramatic and longer lasting. The technique involves manipulating a group of muscles beneath the skin known as the superficial musculo-aponeurotic system (SMAS). This section of muscle controls facial expression. An incision is made along the hairline from the temple to just behind the earlobe. The skin is then separated and lifted. The underlying muscles and tissue are tightened and secured so they maintain their new position.
The price of a facelift surgery will vary, depending on the technique used, and whether it is combined with other procedures. Patients can expect to pay between $7,000 and $10,000.

Do I Need Anesthesia?
No, the procedure can be performed under “twilight” sedation. However, it is more common and safer to use general anesthesia. The best anesthesia best for each patient will be discussed with Dr. Morales and the anesthesiologist.
The results of the surgery will begin to appear several months after the procedure. Typically, the swelling is gone after 2 months. Dr. Morales recommends the AqueCool masques to help reduce the post-operative swelling and bruising. With the mask, results will appear faster after surgery.
Can I Wear Makeup?
Dr. Morales recommends his patients should wait 2 weeks after surgery before light makeup can be applied.
Can I Combine Surgeries?
Yes. The most common procedures combined with a facelift are other face procedures such as eyelid surgery, brow lift and facial fat grafting. Combining facial procedures is typical because it is ideal to perform total facial rejuvenation at one time to obtain the optimal aesthetic result.
Will It Hurt?
The discomfort of facelift is usually very well tolerated. Most patients require pain medication for the first 3-5 days. Along with the discomfort of surgery, patients tire easily from keeping their heads elevated. Dr. Morales also prescribes an anxiety and sleep aid to relieve this discomfort.
