 The Morales Foundation

The Morales Foundation Mission

Our mission will be dedicated primarily to surgical mission trips to countries with children who have burn or general plastic reconstructive surgical needs. It will also provide scholarships for young adults who aspire to be plastic surgeons.

In honor of my father, Rolando Morales, Sr., I have created a 501c3 foundation, The Morales Foundation. The foundation honors my father’s dedication to children with surgical reconstructive needs. His benevolence and passion for helping others inspired me as a child and helped me identify my life’s purpose. It set me on a path to become the plastic surgeon I am today.

By way of background, my father dedicated his entire life as a medical sculptor to the Shriners Institute in Galveston, Texas. It was his first and only job for 40 years! The hospital provided free care to children from around the world who suffered burn injuries or who were born with cleft lip and/or cleft palate deformities. He made the silicone pressure garment therapy and protheses (silicone ears, noses, eyes, etc.) for these children. As I grew up, I spent many summers with him and so I had the opportunity to interact with plastic and reconstructive surgeons at a very young age, which as I stated, led me to dream of being a plastic surgeon. Unfortunately, my father suffered a hemorrhagic stroke five years ago, shortly after his retirement. This life changing event galvanized my interest in channeling my passion into a charitable cause that would honor my father’s legacy. Now that I am living my childhood dream of being a plastic surgeon, I have worked hard to build a thriving practice and I am blessed with an incomparable surgical center and team. It is my time to give back. It would bring me great joy if you would join me in supporting this worthy cause.

Plans for the foundation’s first year

  1. The foundation’s first fundraising event will fund a team of approximately ten to make an initial surgical mission trip within a year from now. The team will consist of two surgical techs, two to three plastic surgeons, two to three resident or fellow plastic surgeons, one administrator, and two to three medical assistants.

  2. The foundation’s first mission trip will likely be to Guadalajara, Mexico. I am currently coordinating details of the trip. It will be a five-day trip that will yield at least two and a half days of operative time. The surgical team will be hosted in coordination with the operating facility. This well-respected facility coordinates with many similar surgical mission trip teams from around the world.

The foundation’s first fundraising event is scheduled for Sunday, August 25th, 2019, 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. It will be a fully catered poolside party at the Omni Houston Hotel located at 4 Riverway, Houston, TX 77056. The event is open to the general public with ticket prices set at $100 each. The event will be limited to 100 people. All ticket proceeds will be directed toward travel expenses for the surgical team as well as operative supplies.
